Project manager visiting Lake Albert, April 2011
This will be my annual visit to our main Ugandan project near Lake Albert. After a week with our NGO partners, seeing for myself the progress they have made during the twelve months since my last visit there, I shall move on to Hoima, about sixty miles away.
Several women's self-help groups in Hoima district have asked for Bees Abroad's help. Most of their members have some experience of traditional beekeeping but have earned practically nothing from it. I've agreed to conduct a short training course to show them, among other things, how to manage more productive modern hives and indeed how to make such hives for themselves from sticks. If the training goes well, I shall see if we can work out a way of providing the group with continuing support.
