Chris's top tips for showing

1. Read the show schedule carefully and follow them. The judge will first eliminate those that don't comply absolutely.

2. Go to shows and see whether you agree with the Judge.

3.Volunteer to act as Judge's Steward.

Next Meeting

We have an apiary meeting on 5th May in West Dorset under the guidance of Simon Jones NDB; another one on Portland on 10th June and the big event of the year will be our grand Convention on 30th September.

Subject to demand, there will be two nosema days on September 8th (probably in Shillingstone) and September 9th (in the South of the County). These will follow a similar format as last year's Nosema day - delegates will be invited to bring samples of their own bees for checking for nosema, there will be opportunities to get involved in preparing the samples and setting up microscope slides as well as a short lecture on nosema and its effects on your bees. All members are encouraged to attend.

This charity supports beekeepers in the developing world, mainly through education and organising marketing opportunities. In parts of Africa, for example, possession of a hive or two of bees can make the difference between your child going to school or not. www.beesfordevelopment.org/
