Bees from 3rd Parties

Further to discussions with the Bee Inspectorate, the following procedural advice should be considered when obtaining bees from a 3rd party source.

Many of you this year will be eager to obtain bees, often from 3rd party sources, and as soon as possible. It is suggested that the brood is shaken onto fresh foundation during a warm day in April to avoid any incidence of foulbrood. The seasonal bee inspector should be invited to check the colony if there is any doubt about  the health of the colony.

The email addresses of the Regional Bee Inspector Adam Vevers and the Seasonal Bee Inspectors Clare Densley and David Packham are as below:-

David     davidpackham@tiscali.co.uk

Please - if you are unsure, ask before you do anything!

Moving unhealthy bees markedly increases the spread of disease and once moved may infect your and nearby bees.
