Lincolnshire Beekeepers' Association Membership Policy (As on November 2010)

Classes of Membership:
These are as described in the Constitution.

Full or Partner Membership is for active beekeepers or those wishing to be treated as active beekeepers. This gives, amongst other benefits, Third Party Public Liability insurance to £5M.

Associate, Country and Junior Membership is for those who are not active beekeepers.

Full Members, Partner Members and Country Members are all registered as members of BBKA in addition to LBKA.

Junior Members should become Full (or Partner )Members when they acquire bees.

For details of the benefits offered by each class see document, 'Lincolnshire Beekeepers' Association: Classes of Membership'. This information should be made available to members and any prospective members.

Membership Year:
The membership year runs from 1st January to 31st December but new members may join at any time of year.
Any new member joining between 1st September and 31st December has membership to the end of the following year, ie up to 16 months membership for one year's subscription. The subscription rate then being the rate for the following complete LBKA year.

Subscriptions:
The subscription rates for Full, Partner and Country Members are determined at LBKA 's AGM for the following year commencing on the 1st January.

The subscription rates for these classes of Membership include Capitation to BBKA, as decided by the BBKA ADM, Capitation to LBKA's Central Fund and in the case of Full Membership basic Bee Disease Insurance. See the current LBKA Directory for details.

Each District determines their own subscription to be added to the above and also their rates for Associate and Junior Membership.

Joining LBKA:

Anyone becomes an LBKA Member by joining one of its Districts.

The District Officer responsible for Membership should obtain at least the name and address of each member in writing on a Membership form. Telephone number and email address are optional but useful extras.

A suggested membership form can be obtained from the LBKA Membership Secretary as an email attachment. A District's own version of a Membership form is quite acceptable but should contain at least the following:
a)  The name of the Association and District eg. 'Lincolnshire Beekeepers' Association; Boston District'
b)  The Association's registered charity number (500360)
c)  A choice of all the available options for classes of membership with subscription rates. (Junior membership need only be included if the District has a different rate for Juniors as distinct from Associates).
d)  The 'Data Protection' statement.
e)  A District contact.
f)   To whom cheques should be made payable.

In the case of new Full, Partner or Country Members the District Officer should use the information obtained to complete the, 'Notification by Districts of New Members and Amendments' form and send this as an email attachment to the LBKA Membership Secretary.

A cheque for the subscription together with the blue copy of the BDI form (for Full Members) should be sent to the LBKA treasurer. Members will not be registered with BBKA or LBKA until both the Notification form and cheque have been received.

Future amendments to members' contact details or status should be sent on the same Notification form to the LBKA Membership Secretary.

Renewal of Membership:
Subscriptions are due on 1st January each year.

It is recommended that a District Officer checks that members' contact details and colony numbers are accurate, that members have chosen an appropriate class of membership and accepted the use of their data as indicated on the Membership form.

The District Officer dealing with Membership should post a cheque for the renewal of their Full, Partner and Country Members and blue BDI forms for Full Members to the LBKA Treasurer by 14th February each year.

Current lists of members registered with LBKA and BBKA will be sent to each District by email attachment in November. These can simply be marked with a 'Yes' or 'No' to indicate renewals and non-renewals and returned by email attachment to the LBKA Membership Secretary by 14th February.

A list of District Officers and all Members including Associates in the format required for the LBKA Directory should be sent to the LBKA Membership Secretary by 14th March.

Bee Disease Insurance:
Cover for the first 3 hives is automatically included in the Subscription for Full Members.

The insurance becomes invalid if a member is under insured, ie has more hives than are insured.

For anyone joining or rejoining after 31st March insurance is not activated for 40 days.

The triplicate BDI form is used as follows: White copy to Member, Yellow retained by District, Blue copy to LBKA Treasurer.

The LBKA treasurer sends new forms and information about BDI rates to Districts in late Summer each year.
