Ludlow and District Beekeepers' Association

BBKA - Basic Assessment

Where is the pesky lady?

The L&DBKA have setup a course for novice beekeepers (12months + experience) to improve their beekeeping and prepare candidates for the BBKA Basic Assessment. The Basic Assessment is an oral test that is run at a local apiary. The test combines the practical skills of manipulating a colony of bees with the some questions on some key principles.Importantly if you wish to study for other BBKA qualifications you must first pass the Basic Assessment as it is a prerquisit for all other qualifications. If you are a member and are interested in this training then please contact the training team via basica@ludlowbeekeepers.org.uk .

The course will be structured in 3 sections, as follows:

1. Theory

We spend 2 full days covering the theory and practical skills needed to pass the Basic Assessment. The sessions will be a mixture of tuition, discussion and practical techniques, and will be conducted in a village hall. The two days will be a few weeks apart to give everyone time to fit the training into the calendar and to further their learning in their own time. These sessions will usually be run outside of the beekeeping season.

2. Practise Assessment

We will setup a mock test for you to take a dry run at the assessment. This will enable you to experience the test and focus on your final preparations.

3. Basic Assessment

The test itself, will be organised by the association exam secretary usually at an association apiary.
