Swarms
Found a swarm of honey bees - we can help!
LDBKA Members are happy to collect swarms of bees as part of the association Swarm Service, which operates between March and September. If you find a swarm of bees then get in touch with a swarm collector in your area, simply look for your postcode in the attached list.
Beekeepers are often called out to swarms of other insects such as wasps, if you are not sure whether you have a swarm of honeybees then have a look at the attached reference page - Are they honeybees?
To find a member in your area who can help you with a swarm find the postcode where the swarm is located in the attached list (A list will be placed here when the swarm service is live):
The Swarm Service Explained
If you find a swarm in the association's area then a member of the association will be able to assist you on the following basis:
- Beekeepers will only deal with swarms of honeybees
- Beekeepers will collect swarms where they consider it practicable and safe for them to do so
- That the owner of the property/occupier gives permission to enter and do so
- The beekeeper accepts no liability for damage occasioned
- The beekeeper will take all reasonable precautions to avoid injury or damage to persons and/or property
- The bees will become the property of the beekeeper when taken and secured
- No charge is made for the service but the beekeeper may seek a contribution towards travelling and other reasonable expenses
