The Association

HISTORY

Our division was formed in June 1947 at Roberts' café, Hoddesdon, changing its old name of Hertford and Hoddesdon and became a division of the Mid-Herts. beekeepers association. In 1951 the Mid-Herts. and West Herts. associations merged to form the present Hertfordshire Beekeepers association. Our divisional area covers Hertford, Ware, Hoddesdon, Broxbourne, Cheshunt, Waltham Cross, Goffs Oak, Cuffley, Bayford and Little Berkhampstead.

ABOUT US, MEMBER PROFILES.

The South East Hertfordshire Beekeepers Association has around 50 members of which some of the most experienced are: 

 

DEREK. W. DRIVER

 Has been a beekeeper and a member since March 1974 and has been a county rep and a committee member for our division. Serving During the last time for seven years as chairman. Resurrected the harvest supper in its present form and designed the syllabus for our beekeeping course and has run this event since inauguration.

 

ROY CROPLEY

 A very experienced beekeeper, who has worked on bee farms in South America and New Zealand. Has served on our divisional committee for a number of years, as treasurer. He has links to other divisions outside our county.

 

JOHN MUMFORD

Started beekeeping in 1974, served as both rep and chairman on the county committee and for nine years as secretary for our division. Runs the divisional apiary, the honey from which is available to members and sold at shows. He was our swarm secretary for many years and In addition has compiled a most comprehensive history of our county beekeeping association.

 

DAPHNE ROOK

Daphne comes from a family of beekeepers, both her father and grandfather kept bees, and Daphne has also kept bees for many years, in addition her two sons are also beekeepers. Has served for many years on our divisional committee, during that time has been chairperson and our county newsletter distributor.
