Apiary

First inspection of year 1
First inspection of the year

Our Apiary is designed mainly as a teaching resource.

The summer meetings at the apiary are friendly and informative. Some of our very experienced members lead the regular checks of the hives and everyone else has the opportunity to handle the bees, take part in the regular care of the colonies and ask questions about the procedures. It is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions about our own hives and discuss various ideas on bee care.

We have several spare bee suits which can be borrowed by anyone who does not yet have their own equipment or who is unsure whether the hobby is actually for them! We suggest you wear trousers and stout shoes or wellington boots and bring gloves (washing-up gloves are ideal). You will then have the opportunity to get close to the bees while feeling safely protected.
