This summer we are organising two types of meeting. Branch meetings with a specific topic and a specific speaker and 'topical sessions' which will be organised and notified at short notice when the time is right to carry out certain things like artificial swarming, queen rearing and making up nucs.
 

Scheduled Meetings 

In May we plan to have a formal opening of the new apiary. After which we are very lucky to be having a visit from our Seasonal Bee Inspector Megan Seymour. She will be talking about selection for queen rearing and doing a 'master class' inspection.

This is followed by an evening meeting with two excellent and interesting speakers. Jonathen Arul is a vet from Exeter and will be talking about bee health and the prospects of introducing predatory beetles to deal with varroa mites. Gareth John will be expanding on his talk last winter with particular reference to the detection and control of varroa overloads.

In July we will visit Quentin Jordan's apiary to see bees kept on Warre hives. This will be followed in August with a visit to Ron Hoskins' apiary in Swindon. Ron has recently found noteriety in breeding bees that have a natural resistance to varroa mite infections.

The last apiary meeting will deal with winter feeding which will take us on to our winter programme starting with the AGM on Tue 23 October.
