An Eastbourne BKA member who owns property in France has reported that the Asian Hornet Vespa velutina has recently been found in Normandy. This is the closest the hornet has come to our county. Please ensure you can identify this honeybee predater by reading the NBU Information sheet. There are also details available on how to produce an Asian Hornet trap to hang in the apiary. Our local beekeepers recognise that for practical reasons beekeeping is not an option for everyone so they are supporting the British Beekeepers’ Association new Adopt a Beehive scheme which makes it possible for more people in West Sussex to become `armchair’ beekeepers and support the honey bee.
