General Husbandry Preparation

A preparation day for candidates sitting the BBKA General Husbandry Assessment, Blackbury Farm, Devon

This course provides a one-day preparation for students sitting the BBKA General Husbandry assessment. It reviews the breadth and depth of knowledge and practical skills required, and includes a mock assessment in the apiary so that students are familiar with the assessment process. Presented by Ken Basterfield, NDB and BBKA Examiner, and Dan Basterfield, NDB, the aim is to improve the confidence and preparation of attendees.

The day is split between classroom and apiary activities. In the classroom we will discuss:

  • Eligibility criteria
  • Apiary & colony record keeping
  • Breadth and depth of published syllabus
  • Discuss any areas of knowledge or practice that students feel weak on
  • The assessment process from both Student and Assessor perspectives
  • Sources of further information if required

The apiary session will cover:

  • Inspection techniques
  • Common manipulations
  • Mock assessment

Cost is £45 per person.
