Beekeeper awarenesss of the Asian Hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax)

This predatory hornet continues to extend its range and UK beekeepers are urged to be on the lookout for it especially in early Spring next year as its arrival in the UK is only a matter of time.

Beekeepers are recommended to log onto the website of the Nonnative species Secretariat, www.nonnativespecies.org and click on Species alerts! for Vespa velutina, which takes you to a page full of information on the Asian hornet. The risk assessment is also worth reading. Anyone who suspects they have seen an Asian hornet is advised to report it immediately.

Gill Maclean has now taken over as our Press Secretary and will also be responsible for the updating of the News section of the website. If you have any news items for publication please let Gill have them. Go to the Press Office section of the website for details of how to contact her.

Pierre Cope and Andy Bell make a donation to BBKA

See Pierre's note below for more information and also have a look at Pierre's blog

Dear Jane, I have just sent your charity the BBKA 155.0GBP , via JustGiving, as a donation on behalf of Andy Bell and myself. This was from his share of royalties received from online music downloads of our EP Sunsets Pink. Sunsets Pink consists of 5 Demos which we recorded back in the early 80's. I released it online back in March this year under the artist name of Dinger( Pierre Cope Andy Bell). The EP can be purchased through Amazonmp3 or Itunes. My share of the royalties is for "The Royal Marsden Trust". The EP did not get any major publicity or press coverage as it was released independently of any major record labels through an online distribution company, however, the old hard core Erasure fans and some friends did buy it. We hope that the money will come to good use for your association.
Kind Regards Pierre Cope

Our thanks go to Pierre and Andy for this generous donation.
