Module Examinations Online

Module examinations:  Saturday 16th November 2024

The next module examination date is 16th November 2024, applications must be submitted online before 30th September 2024. When completing the application form, you will need to select your preference for online or in person at a local venue. Both formats of the exam are the same exam and will be run at the same time.

How to get an application form

Contact your local association Education Secretary and they will email you a unique link to the online application form. The link can only be used once so please make sure you have all the information ready before starting the application. During the application process you will be asked to pay the examination fees via a credit or debit card.

Is the Online examination any different from the written paper?

The online examination follows the exact layout and questions of the written paper, however there are nuances to navigating through the paper and viewing the questions. Do I need any special software to access the online exam?

We will provide a link to download the BBKA online exam software Inspera Exam Portal closer to the date of the exam. The link will detect if you are macOS or Windows and automatically download the appropriate software.  During the download, this page will not change. https://bbka.inspera.com/get-iep

What if things go wrong during the online exam?

There are online Invigilators monitoring activity during the exam who will contact you if they spot a problem. There will also be support available by phone and email.

Will my computer work?

You will need either a Windows or Mac computer with the minimum requirements:

• Windows: 10 and 11 on 64-bit platforms
• Minimum requirement is macOS Big Sur (version 11) and higher
• CPUs newer than 2011 (Intel Sandy Bridge or newer, including Apple silicon)
• 75 MB of free storage space per hour
• Web camera and microphone (internal or external)
• Graphics card with drivers supporting OpenGL2.0 or higher
• A broadband internal connection (0.15Mbps upload speed)
• A working internet connection during installation so that the configuration file can be downloaded

I have a disability. What options are available to me?

Extra time is available to anyone who is eligible. The software we will be using also has the options for larger text, text to speech and contrast changes which is available to everyone. Other needs will be looked at on an individual basis. Please remember that any additional support requirements should be recorded on your application form

Where can I download the BBKA Inspera Exam Portal?

You will be sent an email with links to download the software. A link will also be available here.

What time can I take my online module exam?

You can start your online exam anytime after 9:30. The exams will be available until 13:30 so to get your full allowance of 100 mins, the latest you will be able to start is 11:50. If you are taking two modules you will have to start at 9:30 or shortly afterwards to allow you to fit both modules in and have a short break in between. You can take modules in any order you want.

What happens if I take more than one module.

You can take a maximum of two exams online within the allocated time between 9:30 and 13:30. 

Will candidates be allowed to make paper notes during the online exam on a notepad beside their computer keyboard?

Candidates can type their notes on the screen. This is easy to do and can be deleted afterwards if you wish or be used as a starting point and incorporated into your answers.

How do I know if my computer is suitable?

The following systems are not supported:

• Windows 10 in S mode
• Chromebook
• Apple Ipad
• Android Tablet

Will time checks be given?

The time remaining is constantly in view on screen.

How will it work if multiple people are taking an exam in one household?

Either 2 computers in different rooms or one exam in each session.

Will there be an Invigilator monitoring screens in real time?

Yes. Candidates need to have both camera and microphone enabled so they can be monitored with both video and audio. There will also be a 'Chat' in order for you to communicate with the Invigilator if you have issues during the exam.

Will there be a chance to have a dry run before the exam?

Shortly after applications close, we will email you details of how to access a sample paper for your module.

What happens if the internet goes down during an exam?

After a short-term outage, ie a few minutes, the exam will continue when the signal returns (tested) and an additional amount of time will be added to the exam time to make up for any time lost.

What if my computer goes down during the exam?

We advise that system functionality and the available hardware to the candidate are reliable and tested before the exam. A second computer can be used if the first one fails and the exam will continue where you left off, in such circumstances please advise the invigilator.

Are we expected to draw charts or graphs for the online Modules?

The requirement for drawing graphs or charts for the online Modules will be removed. There may be an occasional picture or a diagram the candidate may be asked to comment on or identify parts of. Some candidates do draw diagrams and create tables as part of their answer but this functionality was not required by the examiner.

How will dishonesty that may occur during the exam be addressed?

As per current procedure, candidates will be monitored by an invigilator and may face disqualification if cheating is confirmed.

Is the exam format the same as recent past papers?

Yes, the format of the online modules will be the same as the handwritten papers.
