First school in BBKA's new Schools Scheme is shortlisted for ecological education award

Calderstones School in Liverpool has been shortlisted for ECO School Project of the Year in the North West. 6 pupils at the school recently received the first Junior Beekeeping certificates under the BBKA’s (British Beekeepers Association) new School Scheme.

The school has established a wildflower meadow and in that they have hives keeping honeybees. Their beekeeping mentor is teacher Emma Turner-Bone. Pupils have already had a good harvest of honey and have been busy making candles to sell at school fairs. The winners will be announced in a ceremony at Liverpool Cathedral on 17th November. The BBKA is thrilled that they are getting this recognition. -ends-
