Examinations & Assessments

Written and practical examinations in support of the BBKA's desire to educate and set standards for beekeepers. .

The Examination Board is responsible for the examinations framework of the BBKA and for setting written and practical examinations in support of the BBKA's desire to educate and set standards for beekeepers

The starting point and entry requirement for all other examinations and assessments is the Basic Assessment in Beekeeping; this practical assessment tests the basic skills and knowledge of the craft. 

Under 18’s can take the Junior Certificate before the Basic if they prefer.

Following the Basic Assessment you can choose to take practical bee husbandry further by taking the General Husbandry Certificate and subsequently  the Advanced Husbandry Certificate in Beekeeping Husbandry. You can also further your knowledge of Bees and beekeeping by studying for the written module examinations.

Other practical assessments available are Microscopy Certificate and Show Judge. View a Summary of the Assessments and Certificates available.

Our Correspondence Courses are available to help prepare for the Basic, the Microscopy or for the Modules.

Module 1,2,5,7 Examinations, March– 24th March 2012
(Applications in by 10th February 2012)

Module 1,3,6,8 Examinations, November– 10th November 2012
(Applications in by 30th September 2012)

Advanced Certificate in Beekeeping Husbandry – 16th/17th June 2012 (Applications in by 28th February 2012)

General Certificate in Beekeeping Husbandry and Microscopy date by arrangement with the Examinations Board Secretary (Applications in by 28th February 2012. Microscopy Assessment takes place in Autumn)

Basic and Junior Certificate date by arrangement with the County Examinations Secretary
(Applications 1 month before assessment)
