Written and practical examinations in support of the BBKA's desire to educate and set standards for beekeepers. .
The Examination Board is responsible for the examinations framework of the BBKA and for setting written and practical examinations in support of the BBKA's desire to educate and set standards for beekeepers
The starting point and entry requirement for all other examinations and assessments is the Basic Assessment in Beekeeping; this practical assessment tests the basic skills and knowledge of the craft.
Under 18’s can take the Junior Certificate before the Basic if they prefer.
Following the Basic Assessment you can choose to take practical bee husbandry further by taking the General Husbandry Certificate and subsequently the Advanced Husbandry Certificate in Beekeeping Husbandry. You can also further your knowledge of Bees and beekeeping by studying for the written module examinations.
Our Correspondence Courses are available to help prepare for the Basic, the Microscopy or for the Modules.
Examination Dates 2013
Module 1,2,3,5,7 Examinations, November– 9th November 2013 (Applications in by 30th September 2013)
Module 1,2,3,5,7 Examinations, 22nd March 2014
(Applications in by 10th February 2014)
Module 1,2,3,6,8 Examinations, 8th November 2014
(Applications in by 30th September 2014)
Basic and Junior Certificate date by arrangement with the County Examinations Secretary (Applications 1 month before assessment - last date of assessment 31st August)
Advanced Certificate in Beekeeping Husbandry – 14th/15th June 2014 and 28th/29th June 2014 depending on numbers (Applications in by 28th February 2014)
General Certificate in Beekeeping Husbandry date by arrangement with the Examinations Board Secretary (Applications in by 28th February 2014)
Microscopy date by arrangement with the Examinations Board Secretary (Applications in by 31st August 2013, Microscopy Assessment takes place in Autumn 2013)
