Calderstones School in Liverpool has won the Eco Project of the Year in the Educate Awards held at Liverpool Cathedral.

The school was the first to join the BBKA's (British Beekeepers Association) new Schools Scheme which gives teaching aids and insurance for school beekeeping.

6 pupils at the school recently received the first Junior Beekeeping certificates under the new scheme.

Wildflower meadow

The school has established a wildflower meadow and in that they have hives keeping honey bees. It was this project that won them the award and the school has said a huge array of pollinators have visited the meadow this year and they will be adding more flower types next year. Their beekeeping mentor is teacher Emma Turner-Bone.

The BBKA is thrilled that they are getting this recognition.
